Representative Tlaib Faces House Censure

She has continued to make anti-Israel statements after avoiding censure a week ago.

UPDATE: 8 AM EST, November 8

The House of Representatives voted to censure Congresswoman Tlaib of Michigan Tuesday evening.

Jewish legislator, Representative Brad Schneider of Illinois, said his colleague’s use of the phrase “From the river to the sea“ in her rhetoric “is nothing else but the call for the destruction of Israel and murder of Jews.”

The 26th legislator in history to be censured by the lower chamber of Congress, Representative Tlaib is the second to be formally reprimanded this year. Representative Adam Schiff of California was censured in June for his commentary on investigations into allegations, now proven false, of then-President Donald Trump’s connections with Russia.

UPDATE: 4 PM EST, November 7

Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan has served in the House since January 2019. Born in Detroit to Palestinian immigrants, she is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.

Since the Hamas invasion of Israel and the ongoing war, some in Congress say that she has been “promoting false narratives” about the war and have called for a vote to censure her. She already avoided one resolution of censure, but the House will vote Wednesday on a second censure motion, which is expected to pass.

In the week between the first censure vote and the one set for Wednesday, she has continued to make anti-Israel comments.

“Representative Tlaib has undermined U.S. interests with her statements and must be censured,” said Representative Rich McCormick of Georgia who introduced the censure resolution. The resolution accuses Representative Tlaib of defending the brutality and kidnappings by Hamas as “justified ‘resistance’ to the ‘apartheid state‘’’ of Israel.

An earlier call to block the censure measure failed.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Speaker Johnson as he oversees proceedings in the House of Representatives.
  • For members of the House as they vote on the resolution to censure Congresswoman Tlaib.
  • For the Lord to draw the hearts of Americans to Him to defend life and liberty.
